IAS Seminar: When autofiction becomes impossible

Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) Visiting Fellow Associate Professor Endre Lund Eriksen will deliver a seminar on their research.
A few years ago, Norwegian writer Endre Lund Eriksen started to write an autofiction about his childhood. When fact-checking with his siblings what he remembered as a traumatic holiday, his sisters claimed that his memories did not correspond with theirs. From their point of view, their childhood was happy, and they didn’t want him to ruin it by writing a novel about it.
Endre felt strongly that he had a right to tell his own story, but it became difficult faced with the reactions of his sisters. And how could he even know if his memories were true?
In this lecture, Endre Lund Eriksen tells of an impossible artistic research project, that through detours ended up in an award winning animated short film for kids.
Endre Lund Eriksen is an Associate Professor at The Norwegian Institute for Children’s books, teaching creative writing and leading the Artistic Research at the Institute.
